About This Place

What this is

Dang, That's Neat is a product review site for things that are genuinely unusual and genuinely useful. Not viral gadgets. Not Amazon bestsellers. Not sponsored content disguised as editorial.

I started this because I kept finding things — at other people's houses, in the back of specialty catalogs, buried in comment sections — that made me think why didn't I know about this sooner? This site is the place those things live.

The word "finds" is intentional. We're not critics issuing verdicts on every product that crosses our desk. We're curators. We look for things that solve a real problem in a way that's a little smarter than you'd expect, that you wouldn't have thought to look for, and that you'd actually want to tell someone else about.

How we pick things

The rule is simple: we only write about things we've used ourselves, or that someone we trust has used and can vouch for. Nothing gets on here based on a press release or a manufacturer's sample that arrived unsolicited.

We're also honest about tradeoffs. Every review includes a "Worth knowing" section because no product is perfect, and you deserve to know what the downsides are before you spend money.

Verdicts are short and decisive: Definitely buy it, Worth it, For a specific person, or Skip it. We don't equivocate. If something is only right for a particular situation, we'll say that. If something is wrong for most people, we'll say that too.

Affiliate disclosure

We earn a small commission on purchases made through links on this site, at no extra cost to you. This is how the site stays running. It doesn't influence what we recommend — we'd rather earn nothing than recommend something we don't genuinely believe in.
